The 'Lives in Me' curriculum is designed to provide African Americans (descendants of Africans who were held as slaves in the USA), cultural competency education in their search to rediscover long lost their African heritage.

  • In accordance with our African American 1st philosophy, this course primarily designed to expose African American students of all ages to the cultural artifacts they need to increase their cultural competency with other African Diaspora cultures and beyond.


  • The 1st class in the ‘ Lives in Me’ curriculum is Afro-Curious (wanting to learn more about Africa) and the last class discusses travelling to Ghana. You will gain a full spectrum of cultural artifacts to make your experience exist in the proper African cultural context.


  • Using 'oral tradition' methods as well as standard academic practices allows the information to be digested in more original & traditional cultural formats allowing us to teach practical , oral and academic culture simultaneously.


  • The entire curriculum will span 10 lessons. Each lesson and related activities will consume approx. 1-2 hour long.

The 'Lives in Me' curriculum is taken as part of our core curriculum (Cultural Nutrition Education, Financial Literacy and Entrepreneurship, Cultural Competency) and electives in (Civics and Pop Culture).


This course is also given FREE to our #LIVESINMECHALLENGE annual competition.
